The NCUK app is run by the admins of the Nigerian Christians in UK group, a free, not-for-profit community. This page explains, in plain English, what the app keeps about you and why. Questions: hello@nigerianchristians.co.uk.

You don't need an account

You can use everything in the app without signing up. We don't use advertising or tracking, and we don't sell or share your information with anyone.

What we keep, and only if you give it to us

  • Member directory (only if you join it): your name, postcode and town, and if you choose, your street address, birthday (day and month only) and WhatsApp number. We use it to check in on members, celebrate birthdays and, if you allow it, mention your birthday in the app. Only the admins can see it.
  • Events and jobs you send us: the details of the event or job, your name and, if you add it, your WhatsApp number in case we have a question. Only your first name is ever shown publicly. Your number is only seen by the admins.
  • Feedback and reports: what you write, and a name or contact detail only if you add one.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, your phone gives the app an anonymous address to send notifications to. It doesn't identify you.

Some things stay only on your own phone and never reach us: your Bible in One Year ticks and where you were last reading.

Why we're allowed to use it

Because you choose to give it to us, for that purpose (your consent). Being part of a Christian group says something about your beliefs, so we only keep directory details for members who ask to join, and we use them only for the group's activities.

Who stores it

The app is hosted by Vercel and its database is run by Supabase. They store the information on our behalf and can't use it for anything else. Videos in the Library play through YouTube, which has its own privacy policy; links to other websites (devotionals, events, jobs) take you to those sites.

How long we keep it

  • Directory details: until you remove yourself or ask us to.
  • Events and jobs: removed automatically once the event has happened or the job has closed. Ones we decline are deleted after 30 days.
  • Feedback and reports: deleted after two years.
  • Notification addresses: deleted as soon as your phone stops accepting them.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you. Email hello@nigerianchristians.co.uk. You can leave the directory yourself at any time with the link you were given when you joined, or just ask us. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
